Do the Fire Safety Regulations apply to my business?
If you are an employer with more than 5 employees (including part-time staff), have a business premises that are visited by members of the public or are a voluntary organisation, are a landlord with control over a business premises, if you own HMO properties, are self-employed with business premises, own a licensed premises or have an alterations notice in force, then yes you are subject to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and must undertake a fire risk assessment.
In short the legislation applies to all places of work with little exception.
The process to conduct the assessment will mean a visit to your premises and undertake a full evaluation of all areas of the property and look at the management system already in place.
At the end of the process you will be provided with a hard copy of the Risk Assessment along with an electronic version and a Fire Log Book for the premises.

Looking at who will be using the premises and if they need a PEEP (personal emergency evacuation plan)

Storage and use of combustible materials and correct separation from ignition sources

Look at ways to reduce the risk to your premises and the management procedures already in place along with record keeping
Fire safety equipment & maintenance
Look at what safety equipment already in place and location and ensure it meets the premises needs and records of maintenance
Fire safety training & drills
Look at staff training records and drills to ensure they meet the minimum requirements
Means of escape in the event of a fire
Ensure means of escape are suitable and inline with the number of people using the premises
Deficiencies in existing fire safety & risk precautions
Report will highlight any areas where improvements need making and suggest how these can be achieved
An evaluation of your existing emergency fire procedures, training & drills
Assess the plans in place and see if they are suitable and would work in the real world
